Non teaching Universities staff strike Enters day Two.

The sit down strike by non teaching staff in public Universities across the country enters day two, as they demand for a salary increment.
The strike that started yesterday Monday August 3,2015 has paralyzed work at public universities protesting the discrimination in increasing salaries originating from a salary increment to all university staff in 2012 but the non teaching staff were not give.
The affected Universities include, Makerere, Kyambogo, Gulu, Busitema among others.
Under their umbrella body Public Universities non teaching staff executive forum, they demand for a total of 32 billion shillings in salary increment.
The chairperson Non teaching staff at Gulu university Mahamood Khalid says they are still at home as they await a response from government.
According to Betihama Jackson the national chairperson of the NON teaching staff, they will not resume work until their demand is met.
“unfortunately no serious engagements have been made by the University council from whom we are majorly making our demand to, unless they heed to our cries we shall not resume work” said Betihama.
The striking public Universities staff include, Sweepers, cooks, office messengers among others.
However Makerere University Guild president David Bbala has urged the Public Universities administration to avoid the temptation of violence since it’s what often most students opt for to solve problems.
The Non teaching staff industrial actions comes at a time when public Universities are opening for a fresh semester.
