NSSF Mounts pressure on Lubowa Land squatters

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has stepped up pressure on the squatters on a portion of its land at Lubowa in Wakiso District in preparation for the development of the Housing project.
The development will comprise of 2,741 houses, and associated amenities on a total of 565 acres.
The Fund also constructed 4 police booths strategically placed at different spots on the land, which are expected to be commissioned by the Inspector General of Police to boost security.
The remaining encroachers led by David Kyambadde who is himself on 0.882 hectares, lost a court case in May 2015 and run to the Court of Appeal. The other encroachers are Matthias Jumba, who encroached on 2 acres in 2008 and expanded to 70 acres by 2014; Josephine Nyinabazungu, Kevina Namatovu and Asuman Bitaba.
According to Geraldine Ssali Busuulwa the deputy NSSF managing director, the procurement of a contractor for the project is in its final stages.
“ A master plan for the entire 565 acres of land has already been designed and approved” she has said.
She has further explained that in addition to the master plan, preliminary designs for the 10 house types forming the residential component of the development have already been developed.
Geraldine SSali has assured NSSF members that the Fund is keen to unlock the value of its real estate investments, and our planned projects, such as Lubowa Housing Estate will not only reduce the housing deficit in the country, but also enable the Fund offer a competitive return to its members.
