Mbale court against sacking of Benedict Muyagu

High Court in Mbale has quashed a resolution by Butaleja District council to sack Benedict Muyagu from his position as the district Vice Chairperson and Secretary for Health and Education. Muyagu was sacked by the district Chairman Joseph Muyono who accused him of incompetence. The resolution for his dismissal was adopted by the district council on June 30th, 2014. He was accordingly replaced with Michael Higenyi. Muyagu protested the sacking saying it was illegal and irregular. He added that the sacking was ignited by his stance against district officials who were fueling corruption and that the procedure used to censure him did not conform to the provisions of the Local Government Act. Today, Justice Henry Kaweesa, the Mbale High Court Judge ruled that there were loopholes in the process used to sack and replace Muyagu. Justice Kaweesa accordingly ordered the district leadership to reinstate Muyagu to the positions he held prior to the dismissal.
