high court convicts 3 local security officers of murder

The High court in Kampala has convicted 3 local security officers of Kawaala- zone 111 of murder.

According to Justice Yasin Nyanzi, the three; Kizito Gozanga, Abdullah Kaweesa and Disan Tumwesigye on the nignt of 25th/April 2013, lynched 19 year old William Ramzey Kwizera whom they suspected to be a thief.

Justice Nyanzi has based the trio’s conviction on the evidence  of a single identifying witness ;James Kiiza who testified that  on the fateful night at about 2: am , he heard the late Ramsey calling out  for help and when he got out, he saw Gonzaga, Kaweesa and Tumwesigye  holding big sticks and a panga beating and cutting  the deceased.

Evidence also shows that the convicts accused the late Ramsey of vandalizing car lights and a door system button belonging to Gozanga.

Court however has acquitted a one Christopher Kitimbo of the said murder saying there was neither direct nor circumstantial evidence against him from any of the 6 prosecution witnesses.

Justice Nyanzi said he will hand down sentences to the 3 men on the 20th /April 2017.
