Muslims Ask Electoral Commission Never to Organise Voting on Fridays

The UMSC Headquarters Old Kampala and the venue for the national Eid Adhuha prayers was filled up today by tens of thousands of Muslims who turned to pray on this very important day on the Islamic Callender.

The Eid Adhuha prayers were led by H.E the AG. Deputy Mufti of Uganda Shk. Khatwib Mukuluwakika and the Eid sermon was delivered by the National Mosque Deputy Imam Sheikh Imran Ssali.

In his Eid message the AG. Deputy Mufti prayed for calm during the Eid festivities and called upon Muslims to celebrate in line with the Islamic teachings.
“After here, give no room to satan to deviate you from the path of truth and guidance” he told the congregation.
The Deputy Mufti prayed for peace, security, stability and tranquility in the country especially during the forthcoming general elections.
He appealed to all Muslims to remain united noting that Unity and development remains UMSC’s motto.
On the Muslims who are in detention in prisons, Shk. Khatwib urged the government to speed up the investigations so that the innocent ones can be set free to rejoin their families.
While delivering the sermon, Shk. Imran Ssali has reiterated his call to election officials of all political parties not to fix elections on Fridays.
“I once again ask those in charge of elections in all political parties to spare Friday because it is a special day of worship for Muslims” the Imam said noting that fixing elections of this day is a violation of Muslims’ freedom of worship since it is tantamount to asking Muslims to choose between Allah and elections.
“It could also be perceived as a plot to exclude Muslims from participating in the elections yet they are also Ugandans with membership and a stake in all political parties” the Shk. Imran said.
Meanwhile His Eminence the Mufti of Uganda Shk. Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje who is in Makkah for Hajj and other official duties has wished all Muslims in Uganda Eid Mubarak.
