Government tables new Municipalities bill to the floor of Parliament.

Minister for Local Government Adolf Mwesigye has tabled the Bill on creation of the new municipalities to the floor of Parliament.
Over 12 proposed Municipalities that include :kisolo, Kitgum, koboko, Kumi, Nansana, Kamuli, Ibanda, Kira, Lugazi, Mubende, Makindye Ssaabagabo and Njeru have been tabled.
Recently President rejected the
creation of some municipalities,
saying it would increase the cost of
public administration. However,
Museveni has now given his
consent to the creation of 12 new municipalities after cabinet after
cabinet approved them.
There are concerns that the decision
to create these new municipalities is
driven more by political
considerations without due regard to
the financial and other implications
that could arise.
Shadow minister of local government
Betty Namboze, says the creation of
the new municipalities was not
anchored on the often cited motive of
bringing services closer to the
people. Namboze argues that it would
be better to create municipalities in
rural areas to ease planning and
create better planned towns.
