Government bans the importation of old vehicles

Government has banned the importation of old vehicles that are eight years old from the year of manufacture effective July 2018 the start of the new financial year.

This is contained in the proposed amendment of the Traffic and Road Safety Act 1998 Amendment Bill 2018 Memorandum.

The Chairperson of Parliament’s Committee on Finance, the Committee that will scrutinize Henry Musasizi welcomes the proposed bill.

He says that Ugandans who can’t afford new cars have alternatives of using public transport.

Musasizi says that Uganda had been turned into a dumping place. He says that the bill will protect the environment that these old vehicles emit with bad air.
