Former Public service Ps Lwamafa Remanded to Luzira Over 88bn pension scam

THE interdicted Permanent Secretary of the Public Service Ministry, Jimmy Lwamafa and two other officials have been remanded to Luzira Prison over sh88b pension case. 
 
The Anti- Corruption Court Chief Magistrate Sarah Langa Siu also remanded Stephen Kunsa the Ministry’s Director of Research and Development and Christopher Obey, the Ministry’s principal accountant.

They were charged with causing financial loss, abuse of office, corruption, false accounting and conspiracy to defraud. They denied the charges.

Prosecution alleges that Lwamafa, Kunsa and Obey caused financial loss of sh44,120,490,323 they irregularly spent the money claiming it was  remittance for National Social Security Fund (NSSF)
 
They were also charged with budgeting for another sh44,121,295,000 as NSSF contributions irregularly, purporting that money was remittance of NSSF contribution, when they knew that employees in public service are exempted from contributing to NSSF.
They allegedly committed the offences over a period of two financial years from 2011 to 2012.
