Public cautioned against contact with animals and birds.

The public  has been cautioned to avoid interacting with animals and birds to avoid

contracting diseases.

During the 11th Joint Annual Scientific Health

Conference held in Kampala, experts pointed at

lack of cooperation from communities as the

major factor that escalates the spread of

epidemics like Ebola, typhoid and Marburg.

Makerere University don at school of public

health Prof. Wabwire Mangeni says in the last 30

years, 20 new epidemics have been experienced

across the globe due to human association with

animals and birds.

Health experts now suggest that government

enacts a law that would force citizens comply

with guidelines issued when an infectious

epidemic breaks out in the country.

Meanwhile,

Ministry of health has assured the public that

there is no Ebola outbreak following a case in

Hoima where a person developed symptoms

similar to those of the heamorrhagic fever.

The ministry’s spokesperson, Rukia Nakamatte

says samples from the patient turned out

negative of Ebola, Marburg and Congo

heamorrhagic fever.

However, a team to carry out further

investigations in the area has been dispatched.
