Parliament recommends revision of EC salary structure.

Parliament has recommended that government
revises the salary of The Electoral Commission Chairperson, Eng Badru Kigundu from Shs6million
he currently receives, to shs35million.
The recommendation follows suit for other
officials at the Electoral body such as the EC
secretary, Sam Rwakojo who gets 4million.
The Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee
chairperson, Stephen Tashobya while presenting
a report to the budget committee told MPs that
the salaries at EC should match up with those of government commissions, Chairpersons and
Executive Directors.
For instance, KCCA ED gets about shs40m, Bank
of Uganda governor Emmanuel Mutebile earns
over Shs53.3 million per month, Commissioner
General of Uganda Revenue Authority, Doris Akol
earns Shs40 million per month and Richard
Byarugaba, the Executive Director National Social
Security fund gets Shs39 million among others.
The Legislators are also considering reforms that would see government acquire vehicles on leases
instead of outright purchases in a bid to cut expenditures. A single car costs about shs400m.
