Market traders association chairperson commits suicide – Rukungiri

Fifty-one-year-old Ivan Turinawe, the chairman of Rukungiri Central Market Trader's Association in Rukungiri municipality has committed suicide by poisoning.

Turinawe breathed his last at Nyakibale hospital on Wednesday evening.

Sulait Muhumuza, the Rwenkuba village chairperson, says Turinawe was rushed to the Hospital on Tuesday evening for suspected poisoning after retiring from drinking in Katerere trading center.

The deceased has been operating a kiosk in Rukungiri Central market. But Muhumuza says Turinawe didn't turn up for work on Monday and Tuesday as he spent the two days drinking. He jokingly invited people to attend his burial if he dies.

The deceased's widow, Alice Turinawe, says Turinawe has been threatening to end his life for unknown reasons. She however, suspects that her husband could have decided to take his life due to stress because he had several bank loans.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, says the deceased's body is still lying at Nyakibale hospital for postmortem as investigations are ongoing.
