Embattled Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago
has vowed to lead a match with his supporters
on Monday next week, to The Electoral
Commission EC offices on Jinja road in demand
of his nomination.
This follows the commission’s decision not to
proceed with nominations of the Kampala
mayoral aspirants due to government tabling the
KCCA amendment Bill 2015. The bill provides
among others for the lord mayor to be elected by
the councilors and not the public.
EC chairperson Badru Kigundu on Wednesday
said they nomination processe had been halted
until the commission gets guidelines from the
Minister for Kampala, Frank Tumwebaze on how
to conduct the matter.
Lukwago, however says that Kigundu is being
used by government to deny Kampala electorate
their right to vote opposition candidates.
Meanwhile,
Speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga has
tasked Prime Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda to
explain why government tabled a bill that
proposes to scarp the election of Kampala Lord
Mayor by adult suffrage yet it has legal
implications.
