Kampala shop owners strike over exorbitant rent

Traders at Pioneer mall in Kampala have gone on strike and closed their shops over a hike in rent.

The traders accuse the owner of the premises of hiking rent whenever the dollar rate goes up. The traders are also protesting the system of paying for electricity and water separately.

The police has intervened and arranged for a meeting between the traders and the owners of the premises. However the owner was still hesitant to meet the traders.
