“I am happy to hand over a police force better than I found it” – Kayihura

"I am happy to hand over a police force better than I found it, irrespective of the recent bad image. I am grateful to the President for the opportunity to serve. I may have fallen short during my tenure and that I regret, but I am only human. However, we have had more achievements than failures" – Gen Kale Kayihura.

Kayihura has this morning been handing over office to his successor Martin Okoth Ochola during a ceremony presided over by the minister of Internal Affairs Gen. Jeje Odongo at Police headquarters in Naguru.

Kayihura who turned up dressed in his full military General's uniform, apologized to whoever he may have hurt or wronged during his time as IGP, but noted that he did that in his line of duty, not personally.

He has also said that he will remain a loyal soldier of the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) and thanked President Yoweri Museveni for trusting him and elevating him to the top, not just in the police, but in the army where he rose through the ranks to become a General.
