Government offers shs18b for construction works at Namugongo Martyrs Shrine.

Government has offered shs18 billion to fast
track reconstruction works at Namugongo
Martyrs Shrine where Pope Francis will celebrate
mass when he visits the country next month.
President Museveni has ordered for the urgent
release of the money following concerns by a
Vatican reconnaissance team that the shrine is
unlikely to be ready in time. Due to poor cash
flow, the reconstruction works are lagging
behind.
The money will be channeled through relevant
ministries, ministry of finance spokesperson Jim
Mugunga said noting that the construction
company-ROKO does not have the obligation to
account for disbursed government funds.
Months back, government offered 1.4billion for
renovation works of the Nakiyanja Church of
Uganda martyrs Shrine.
