Electoral Commission Postpones Nomination For Special Interest Groups

The Electoral commission through its powers has Postponed the Programme for Elections of Special Interest Groups (SIGs) Councils and Committees which was supposed to start today with nomination of candidates.

The postponement however is only for Makindye Division and Kampala Capital Authority (KCCA).

The Electoral Commission publicist Jotham Talemwa has told us that the postponement is due to the recent establishment of one hundred and nine (109) new village urban councils in Makindye Division by Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), under Section 4(4) and 82(1) of the Kampala Capital City Authority Act, 2010.

Special Interest Groups (SIGs) comprise of Councils and Committees of Youths, Persons with Disability (PWDs) and Older Persons according to Jotham Talemwa.

“However ”the programme for elections of SIGs Councils and Committees, commencing with nominations today Thursday 27th August 2015, remains unchanged in the rest of Uganda.
