EC gives parliament up to August to pass Constitutional Amendment bill

The Electoral Commission has given Parliament until August to ensure that the Constitutional Amendment Bill 2015 is passed, to allow for proper planning of the 2016 elections.

The deadline was discussed at a meeting on the proposed bill held by the Electoral Commission and the Legal and Parliamentary affairs committee at Parliament.

The Electoral Commission also disregarded a clause in the bill that proposes that people who want to stand for office as independent candidates should get one thousand signatures before they can cross over from a political party.
