East African passports to be accepted internationally by 2016

Uganda’s State Minister for East African Affairs, Shem Bageine, says East African citizens holding East African passports will be permitted to travel around the world using the travel documents by January next year.

The passport that was introduced in 1999 currently restricts travel to EAC member states only.

State Minister Bageine made the announcement while responding to questions posed by Rwanda’s Representative at the East African Legislative Assembly Dr James Ndahiro at the East African Community headquarters in Arusha recently.
