Besigye is free to campaign but can’t be allowed to break the Law – Museveni.

Press release from Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on situation in Kampala.

To Ugandans,

My office has learnt with concern the unfortunate events happening in Kampala after the arrst of Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye.
Besigye was arrested for defying Lawful Police Orders when he tried to hold a campaign Rally where he was not supposed to.

Besigye is free to campaign but he cannot be allowed to break the Law with impunity.
The Police will continue doing its work without interference from anyone.

This message is however to Ugandans, young Boys and Girls who are being drawn into Violence over this event that is already under our control.
I have instructed the IGP to release Besigye to continue with his Campaign but only to pre-agreed places.
We have also put the National Army on Alert and ready for deployment should this situation escalate.

I want to request Ugandans to be calm, vote wisely, avoid violence and wait for results.
In NRM we not only ready to win this election and continue with our Agenda but also to relinquish power should Ugandans vote otherwise.
Like I have said before, we are sure of the support.

We shall not hesitate to enforce Law and Order and who ever continues with Violence will face the full force of the Law.

YK Museveni 2016.
