Athletics coach arrested for infecting girls with HIV

Athletics coach Peter Wemali is remanded again pending investigations into aggravated defilement charges pressed against him. Kapchorwa Chief Magistrate’s Court amended the charges against Wemali from rape to aggravated defilement upon evidence presented this morning to show that Wemali infected three national runners with HIV. The girls are aged 15, 16 and 17 respectively. The medical report presented today forms part of prosecution evidence against Wemali. Wemali was not allowed to take plea because of the nature of his alleged offences. Hood Matovu, the presiding Grade One Magistrate said the new charges against Wemali can only be heard by the High Court. He returns to Court on May 14th.
