4 Muslim suspects including the acting Amir of Nakasero Mosque Sheikh Yahaya  Ramathan Mwanjje have  this afternoon been arraigned   before  Buganda Road court  to answer charges of murdering Maj. Muhammad Kiggudu and his body guard Sgt. Steven Mukasa at  Masanafu trading center in November last year.

Chief Magistrate Jamson Karemani read the counts of murder to the accused and remanded them to Luzira prison until the 20th/January/ 2016 after cautioning them not to plead as murder is a grave offence that can only be handled by the High court.

Sheikh Yahaya Mwanjje has been jointly charged with 3 other people including; 2 boda-boda riders from Kyengera Nsangi stage; Muhammad Buyondo and Abdul -Wahab Ssendegeya and a businessman from Masanafu trading center Muhammad Ssekandi.

Prosecution  ked by Emilly Ninsiima states that the 4 and  others still atlarge on the morning of  26th/November 2016 at Masanafu trading center within Lubaga division in Kampala district,  with malice afore thought shot dead Maj. Muhammad  Kiggundu and sgt. Mukasa who were driving in a UPDF vehicle for a talk show at a local radio station.

The 4 suspects have been part of 14 other suspects who were released yesterday on police bond by Nalufenya police station in Jinja.

However defence lawyer Fred Muwema, on behalf of his clients   filed an oral complaint before court against the conduct of the commandant of Nalufenya prison, Wilson Omoding of wrongfully confirming the accused beyond the mandatory 48 hrs having been arrested between the 27th/November last year and 5th/December 2016.

Muwema added that his clients were subjected to both mental and physical torture and as a commandant; Omonding has been an accessory to these acts.

He therefore asked court to summon this senior commissioner of police Omonding Wilson to appear before court and answer to charges of violating the rights of the accused.

Magistrate Karemani said he will deliver his ruling on the 20th/January on whether to summon Omoding.
