The two weeks sit down strike by the non teaching staff in public Universities which has paralysed academic business seems to be far from ending despite several efforts by stakeholders to solve the impasse.
The striking non teaching staff are demanding for a pay rise from government and respective University councils in line with teaching staff whose salaries have been increased since by Government.
Several reconciliation meetings have been held including one yesterday with the prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda in which he committed that government will increase the non teaching staff salaries in the next financial year.
Jackson Betihama, the Chairperson of non teaching staff for public Universities has been telling us that all they want is a salary increament now.
