By Joshua Mutale
As Uganda prepares to mark the Heroes’ day that falls on 9th June Government is to build a huge monument in Dwaniro Sub County, Kiboga district where the unknown and unnamed heroes will be remembered.
“Many of the people who died during the liberation struggle are unknown and unnamed, there are many Ugandans who lost their relative during the war but still think their relatives went to Kenya or Europe and they will come back yet they died. Therefore we want to settle their hearts” explains Ofwono Opondo the Government spokesperson.
President Museveni will preside over the groundbreaking for the construction on the unknown hero’s monument soon.
Opondo says that the main Heroes day celebrations will be marked at Katwe Primary school play ground in Kiboga district.
He has however dismissed the allegations that medals are only given to NRM cadres.
“No those are lies, regulations governing the national medals are in place and have even been amended to make sure that they are universally inclusive “says Opondo.
Over 70,000 people are estimated to have died in the liberation struggle of 1985-86 led by Yoweri Kaguta Museveni the incumbent president of Uganda.
