Taxi drivers announce strike
Taxi drivers operating in Kampala city have announced that they will go on strike on May 25, 2015, protesting the impounding of over 1000 of their taxis Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA).
They will be joined by boda boda riders and lorry drivers in protesting what they call KCCA’s highhandedness, arrogance and insensitiveness. Led by Abdullah Kiwanuka, the drivers told journalists on Monday that the strike is the last resort, after KCCA boss Jennifer Musisi refused to relent on impounding taxis, motorcycles and Lorries. The city’s five divisions are teeming with taxis impounded by law enforcement sections. The same is true with police stations around the city.
